What is Kenpo Karate? Some call it "fist principles" or "the way of the fist" it has also been called " the law of the fist" (fist law). Kenpo is really a "potluck" of martial arts, often a combination of Chinese martial arts such as Shao-lin Kung fu with Japanese martial arts like Karate. At our school it is a combination of American Kenpo, Wing Chun Kung Fu, and Aikido. The benefits of our system, Ah- May Kenpo (meaning Rain Kenpo) is that the students are able to learn concepts and principles that can be applied and can achive a level where they can defend themselves in a relatively short amount of time (a few years rather than a decade or more). We use scientific principles, that cause an unending flow of motion. A force which can overwhelm any attacker. Every move creates a specific reaction in your opponent. Each reaction leads you to your next move. Each move flows into the next. This logical flow of action is the essence of Ah-May Kenpo. To control the power of Kenpo, you must first control yourself.
WE ARE NOT A COMMERCIAL SCHOOL. We don't make you sign a contract. All classes are held in small groups at a studio in the instructors home. The small groups ensures that each student gets individual attention and correction in order to maximize and enhance the learning experience. Kenpo training takes place in a FUN yet formal atmosphere with an emphasis on etiquette, respect and self-control as well as physical ability. We strive to keep movements as natural as everyday movements. Students learn to control their techniques, not pull them or stop blows just short of contact. So that power is always maintained with control. All classes are taught with utmost SAFTY in mind and we ask that ALL class rules and dress code be strictly adhered to.
